There are many reasons to clean the air ducts in your property. When the ducts are sterilized, the heat lasts longer (since there isn’t as much dirt to consume its parts), it dusts less often, and the air we breathe in the house is cleaner. There are many different designs of duct systems, for example, loft systems and basement systems, but the concept of cleaning these systems is the same. Cover Supply Registers and Turn on Fan

The first thing that you should do is to cover up your supply air registers with paper towels. It is an essential step to prevent dust from being blown into the rooms during operation. Then, the fan needs to be running during cleaning to be able to maneuver together the dust that can be released when you clean and knock. If you do not have a fan, you can direct the heat, or perhaps take the opportunity to set a new thermostat with this useful option.

Check the Filter and Loosen Dust in Ducts

Again, sweep and brush down to the manhole or pipe as far as possible. Then, you should turn off the fan on the thermostat and disconnect the power to the furnace from the service switch or switch panel. Do not simply turn off the thermostat, as this will not turn off the unit.

Clean Out Blower Compartment and Return Air Boot

Once the power is off, you can remove the panels on the front of the furnace and also open the blower compartment and return the air duct. This is where most of the dust will be found. Buying a better filter will certainly reduce the dust in your home. However, the better the filter, the more often you will need to change it.
